Celebrating Cortamlet: Past, Present and Future - 50 Years.

On Wednesday 9th December 2015, we celebrated 50 years of learning in Cortamlet Primary School.

Our Primary 4, 5, 6 and 7 pupils travelled back to the 1960’s and sang a Beatles medley, Christmas carols and quoted some memories of their parents and grandparents from the last 50 years.

We had the pleasure of welcoming back Mr Ivan Bingham and Mr Eric Nicholson, two past pupils who shared some of their memories with us.

The school classrooms were open for everyone to visit, to see our collection of historical photographs and classwork.

Tea, coffee and mulled punch was served after the service by our PTA and everyone had an opportunity to catch up with past principals, teachers and friends.

Our assembly hall and specially erected marquee were filled to capacity with friends, neighbours and families connected to the school.

To mark our 50th celebration, Mrs Miskelly and her Primary 6 and 7 pupils prepared a very special newsletter supplement for the Ulster Gazette. It took weeks of hard work and endless drafts. The school was a buzz of excitement and every corner you turned, a group of children were found interviewing and photographing someone connected to the school. It was an extremely valuable and real life learning experience for every child. One, which I don't think we will forget.

We all had a wonderful evening celebrating 50 years of learning together with the community.
