Primary 4/5 – Mrs Rice

Welcome to primary 4/5.  Keep an eye out here for all the fun things we get up to in school.

On Tuesdays we enjoy football with Chris and sing our hearts out with Gemma.  Every other Tuesday the library van visits school.  With so much to do on a Tuesday we need plenty of energy so we also have our toast on a Tuesday!

On a Friday we develop our hockey skills with Christine.  Our skills are developing really well so as we progress we enjoy playing lots of matches so we need to remember our shin guards and mouth guards every week!

Meet primary 4/5

For healthy eating week we made fruit kebebs and healthy sandwiches. Lots of people tried something they hadn't had before. We all really enjoyed it and thank you to everyone for taking part and bring in such a variety of fruit and vegetables

Look who came to visit today! The Easter bunny brought treats for everyone!

Blue for Ben! On the last day of term we all wore something blue to help raise money for MD right here in Northern Ireland. It is a cause very close to our hearts and everyone made a tremendous effort to wear something blue. If you look closely some even had blue hair for the day!

We studied Egypt as our topic this term and we really enjoyed investigating and finding out so much about life in ancient Egypt, particularly the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamen. Aspart of our topic we made Egyptian masks. We are really pleased with how they turned out! Have a look!

To celebrate science week we visited the Navan Centre in Armagh where we met a crazy scientist, an American soldier and Scientific Sue.  We saw and took part in a number of science experiments the most exciting of which were carried out by Scientific Sue.  They were centred around the story of How to Train Your Dragon and we saw fire, dry ice, smoke rings and many other exciting things created on stage. We really enjoyed it!

To end our procedural writing topic we followed recipes to make tray bakes. Learning while having fun!

For homework we designed our own book covers using painter and emailed them to school. Here are some of them! They are great!

As part of World Book Week we had author and illustrator Ian Jackson with us. We had great fun drawing illustrations using Microsoft Paint for The Three Little Pigs, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Hare and the Tortoise.

Primary 4/5 had a visit from fireman John who is based at Newtownhamilton Fire Station.  He delivered a very important message to the pupils about the dangers of fire, keeping themselves safe and the role of the fire service.  Primary 5 then received their fire safety pack.

We planted water cress seeds.

Look how our cress has grown!

This week is anti-bullying week. (16th-20th November)

Celebrating Cortamlet! What a fantastic evening, shared with family and friends of Cortamlet. The cake was delicious and was made by Mrs Herron.

Christmas Craft. Primary 5 stitched these lovely Christmas puddings and Primary 4 made fabulous stockings. Great work, well done!
