Primary 4/5

Today we dug up the potatoes that primary 4 planted last term. We washed them, cooked them and mashed them with the butter we had made. They were delicious. Charlie also brought in a corn on the cob from a field near his grandad.

Gavin from Newtownhamilton fire station came to visit us today. He talked about the importance of a bedtime routine and having an escape plan. He reminded us to check our smoke alarms every week and left us each a fun fire safety pack.

Our topic is food and farming. We have been looking at where our food comes from- bananas from Costa Rica and grapes from Argentina! We had a little look and found some things closer to home- strawberries, carrots, potatoes and crab apples are growing in our school garden. George and Martha brought us in tomatoes and cucumber from their Granda’s greenhouse, they were delicious! They also brought some rhubarb which used to make a crumble, it was very tasty!

Number Hunt! We took our Maths outside with P4 searching for 3digit numbers and counting how many 10s were in each and P5 searching for 4 digit numbers and counting the 100s in each. It is great to take our work outdoors.

This week during our Forest School session with Mrs Preston, we were learning about tree identification using leaves from our environment. We used the leaves we had collected to make some art work.
