Health and Wellbeing

We are a Being Well, Doing Well School which works with the EA to develop a whole school approach to emotional health and well being. Mrs Rice is our well being Champion and is supported by Mrs Preston (P1 Teacher) and Mrs S McBride ( governor) to form part of our well being team, alongside our pupil Well Being Warriors. Mrs Rice is also a mental health first aider.

Meet our Well Being Warriors! Grace and Jamie from P7, Grace and Alice from P6, Annie and Charlie A from P5 and Hannah J and Kyle from P4! We work closely with Mrs Rice, our well being champion to plan activities and present important messages in assembly to our peers and staff in school. Our notice board has fantastic motivational quotes and pictures of what we get up to!

In January the whole school is thinking about our school value of happiness.  Grace our P6 well being warrior has organised happiness colouring activities for each class to complete to spread some happiness and inject some colour into our classrooms.  Thank you Grace.

To celebrate the start of the new year the well being warriors gave everyone in school a chocolate coin and we carried out a mindful eating practice in our classrooms. It was very hard to wait to eat the chocolate but it was worth it in the end and there were smiles all round!

In November we got everyone together outside to take notice of our beautiful school surroundings, to get moving and to connect with one another by completing a Daily Mile session.

At the end of May our Well Being Governor, Mrs Sandra McBride came in to meet with us. We enjoyed some juice and tray bakes and told her all about what we have been doing in school. We showed her our noticeboard and our website. She was very impressed with all we have done this year. Matthew, Zoe and Jamie were missing from the picture.

In April, with Easter approaching, our Wellbeing Warriors hid chocolate eggs for every pupil in our school grounds- a huge egg hunt soon commenced! Happy Easter everyone!

March- in March, we march! We took everyone outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and surroundings of our playground.

February- we rewarded our teachers and all who work in school with a certificate in our Friday celebration assembly. We are grateful for the hard work of everyone in school. Mrs Rice also had a special treat for our WBW as they have been working so hard. Thank you!

Our Staff Awards Assembly

February.  We are celebrating Children's Mental Health Week in school from 3rd February to 7th February.  We will complete a well being homework this week, carrying out some activities thinking of the Take 5 Steps to wellness.  We will also lead an assembly based on the theme 'Know Me, Grow Me' which helps us to understand and manage our emotions.  We will carry out some follow up activities in class based on this.  Also this week we will revisit the NSPCC Speak out Stay Safe Assemblies and the PANTS campaign.  We will finish our week by having a non uniform day alongside our school council where we all wear pink or red.

January. Our Well Being Warriors took everyone a treat in January- a delicious chocolate coin but... we followed a mindful eating exercise to help use our senses to appreciate the chocolate before they devoured it! They were not allowed to bite or chew to begin with and this was very tricky! All of our staff enjoyed this activity too!

November 2024, our well being warriors went into classrooms with Christmas themed mindful bookmarks. Each class put on some Christmas music and coloured their bookmark. The WBW then laminated them and returned them to each child. We think they look fab!

October 2024, we all gathered together in the hall to learn a new dance, we had great fun, learning, connecting and moving!

September 2024. Our new Well-being Warriors were introduced in assembly. For their first job they got everyone outside for the daily mile! I Everyone has a smile on their face and it was great to see the older children looking out for the younger children. Great job everyone
